Men der er noget, du måske ikke ved: batterierne i disse elbiler forbinder Berlin med Argentina, og historien er ikke så skinnende som reklamerne. I Andesbjergene tørrer floderne ud, og lokale samfund modsætter sig den destruktive lithiumminedrift. Dette er den skjulte pris ved Europas "grønne omstilling".

Denne måned mødes regeringer i Genève for at forhandle FN's bindende traktat om erhvervsliv og menneskerettigheder. Danmark, der har EU-formandskab, har en mulighed (og et ansvar) for at stå sammen med lokalsamfundene i frontlinjen og presse på for bindende regler, der virkelig holder virksomheder ansvarlige i hele forsyningskæden. Miljøretfærdighed betyder ikke mere udnyttelse forklædt som bæredygtighed. Omstillingen skal beskytte alle.

You’ve probably seen more and more electric cars on the road. They’re supposed to be the solution, right? Clean, and green.

But there’s something you might not know: the batteries inside those Electric Vehicles (EV) connect Berlín to Argentina, and the story isn’t as shiny as the ads. In the Andes, rivers are drying up and entire communities are resisting destructive lithium mining. This is the hidden cost of Europe’s “green transition”.

This month, governments are meeting in Geneva to negotiate the UN Binding Treaty on business and human rights. Denmark, holding the EU presidency, has an opportunity (and responsibility) to stand with communities on the frontlines and push for binding rules that truly hold corporations accountable throughout the whole supply chain. Environmental justice means no more exploitation disguised as sustainability. The transition must protect everyone.

Our new podcast brings you the voices from factory protests in Berlin to the salt flats of Argentina. Come to listen to it. Let’s demand that Denmark stands for human rights and climate justice, no corporate profit.

Probablemente hayas visto que cada vez hay más vehículos eléctricos en las calles. Se supone que son la solución sustentable, ¿no? Limpios y ecológicos.
Pero hay algo que tal vez no sepas: las baterías de esos vehículos eléctricos (VE) conectan Berlín con Argentina, y la historia no es tan perfecta como la publicidad lo hace creer. En los Andes, los ríos se están secando y comunidades indígenas enteras se resisten a la destructiva minería de litio. Este es el costo oculto de la "transición verde" de Europa.

Este mes, los gobiernos europeos se reúnen en Ginebra para negociar el Tratado Vinculante de la ONU sobre empresas y derechos humanos. Dinamarca, que tiene la presidencia de la UE, tiene la oportunidad (y la responsabilidad) de apoyar a las comunidades e impulsar normas vinculantes que realmente exijan responsabilidades a las empresas en toda la cadena de suministro. La justicia ambiental significa acabar con la explotación disfrazada de sostenibilidad. La transición debe proteger a todxs.
